PROPOSED 2004 Format for the MCUDL DRAFT Division

1.  The mission of the MCUDL Draft Division is to teach and promote the sport of ultimate.  Every attempt will be made to maintain parity between the Draft teams and to encourage co-ed play.  Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect for the opponent or the “spirit of the game”.

2.  The Draft Division Coordinator will be selected during the first meeting of each season, based on a majority vote of the current MCUDL officers (President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer).  In the case of a tie, the President decides.

3.  To be eligible for the Draft Division, a player must complete a MCUDL Registration Form and a UPA Hold Harmless Form.  In addition, dues must be paid by the pre-established cut-off date.  Any players registering after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list.  Players who play in the A Division are not eligible for the “waiting” list.

After the 3rd week of the season, a “supplemental” selection from the waiting list will be done to fill out the team rosters.  (Maximum roster size will be 17 total players.)  After the “supplemental” picks, additional players may be selected from the waiting list and placed on teams to replace injured players who are out for the rest of the season.

  4.  The Draft Division Captains will consist of those players who have expressed interest in being a captain.  In the event of too few Captains, surrogate Captains will be chosen by the Draft Division Coordinator to assist in team selection.  In the event of too many Captains, the League Officers will act as a committee to determine the Draft League Captains.  Preference should be given to new captains, and Co-captains should be encouraged.

  5.  The assignment of players to teams will done by the Draft Division Captains.   The Captains will be randomly assigned a number to determine selection order.  During each round, the Captains will select a player, based on the selection order.  After each round, the selection order is reversed.

In cases where a Captain selects a “pair” of players (See #7 below), that Captain will skip his/her selection during the round which is appropriate to the skill level of the “paired” player.   After the 8th round, the remainder of the male players will be randomly assigned to teams.

6.  Women and men are placed into separate pools and each pool is drafted separately.

7.  Two players may request to be placed on the same team.  However, this request will only be granted when one of the players is level 0.  Special situations (e.g., spouses who need to play on the same team to care for a child) will be allowed at the discretion of the Draft Division coordinator.

8.  The playoff format shall be determined prior to the start of the 7season and shall be in accordance with the Standard UPA playoff format.

9.  Minimum number of games for a player to be eligible for playoffs:  one-half the total number of regular season games.
